Her behavior totally went downhill on day 2...this is actually a good sign, believe it or not. It means her body is withdrawing from the opiate-like effect that gluten and casein have on her body. If gluten and casein were not much of an issue, we wouldn't see many behavior changes, positive or negative. It should mean that after we get all of it cleaned out of her system, we should see some improvements. Hopefully it won't take more than a few days.
It is amazing the connection of behavior and food...One time at church, we had a child who couldn't sit still to save his life...his dad got frustrated one day with his hyper activity, and asked for some solutions..I said the first thing that came to mind, "when he is thirsty, give him water instead of coolaid" ...the young father had not made the connection that his child drinking coolaid all day would result in not only hyper activity, but the resulting crash would make the child tempermental, thats an easy one for us, but there are a lot of connections that we don't make that have similar consequences to children and we just don't know it....Alex had big problems with WHEY and CASEIN...we eliminated all of that for a few years ...If I did not see it in my own child, I would never believe that products from milk and wheat would have an effect on behavior, but it did for Alex and I am sure it will for Maya. Each child is different, so who knows how she will react, but I am confidant you will see a difference. Just so you know, Homogenized milk is, in my opinion, the reason we are seeing such a rise in kids having problems with casein. I was talking to Melissa's 2nd grade teacher...she just finished her last round of chemo for cancer...she was told that her cancer came from environmental factors (she is in great shape and has always been very healthy with no family history of cancer) ...what they told her was..if we didn't have it thirty years ago...avoid it the best you can...including certain food processes, like milk...there are so many factors that affect behavior, that I doubt you will see one thing that is the "miracle" cure for Maya, but I do believe you will see all these things that you are doing come together and help Maya progress in ways that she would not have been able to without your diligent effort...I am so glad you opened this up for everyone. None of us can know exactly what you are going through, but I know I can relate to some of these things, and hopefully offer a little support.
ReplyDeleteoopps I forgot to mention that gluten was also eliminated from his diet....
ReplyDeleteWow, it's great that y'all can make those changes. I tried switching some of Eli's foods, but he refuses to eat or drink them. Oh well.;
